Geotechnologies, sociobiodiversity and agroecological backyards: a study on the quilombo Santa Justina and Santa Izabel, Mangaratiba/RJ

Abstract

Traditional peoples and communities have much to contribute to more sustainable solutions, since their practices, supported by tradition, are aligned with the best use of natural resources and the maintenance of life support systems. In this sense, the application of geotechnologies in the mapping of sociobiodiversity, including agroecological backyards, allows the understanding of these production systems and their relationship with the environment. This work aimed to investigate the sociobiodiversity of the quilombo of Santa Justina and Santa Izabel located in Mangaratiba, Rio de Janeiro, supported by geoinformation. The methodological steps consisted of a bibliographic and documentary review, collection of secondary cartographic data, as well as the application of a questionnaire using the VICON Saga software. The question script comprised the following research axes: 1) profile; 2) relationship with agricultural production; 3) relationship with biodiversity, 4) relationship with the place. Twenty-seven representatives of quilombola families were interviewed and the results indicate the strong relationship they have with the land, as well as concluding how the community interacts and takes care of its territory, since a large part is covered by Atlantic forest in an excellent state of conservation, in addition to the last fragment of mangrove in the context of the Saco River basin.
