Between 2006 and 2017, the area planted with soybeans in Brazil increased by 68%, contributing to the performance of the agribusiness GDP, which has increased by 135% in the same period. This expansion, concentrated in the Central-North region, faces challenges such as transportation infrastructure and logistical obstacles. The ports of Arco Norte are presented as a strategic alternative for the production route, providing less congestion and proximity to the Asian market. However, the expansion of soybean cultivation raises concerns related to deforestation and environmental conservation, mainly in tropical forest areas. This research indicates that, since agricultural GDP has been boosted and agricultural properties are rented, the wealth generated is not distributed equitably, aggravating social inequality in municipalities with large agricultural areas. The analysis used two agricultural censuses and economic and social indicators, applying spatial autocorrelation techniques to assess a relationship between agricultural expansion and socioeconomic development. Despite the expansion of soybeans with the potential to promote economic development, it also intensifies inequality and generates environmental impacts, reinforcing the need for public policies that guarantee sustainable and fair growth.
