Memories of market women about their life and work trajectories at CEASA in Vitória da Conquista-BA

Abstract

The central objective of this article is to analyze the memories and perceptions of market traders in Vitória da Conquista-BA, through their professional trajectories and individual and collective memories. This is a qualitative and retrospective research, developed from the collection and analysis of interviews, in which we had the collaboration of 11 participants, aged between 32 and 72 years old and whose average professional experience varies between 2 and 40 years. The data collected were interpreted in light of the content analysis methodology, in which we identified some categories of analysis, among which are: work in the street market, work in the field and domestic work. At the end of the research we realized that many of the participants associate domestic work as being a social function of women, in addition, many of the workers bring memories about working in the field in their memories. However, the participants characterized working as a market stall as a factor of economic emancipation and promotion of human dignity. We hope with this study to contribute to the critical expansion of studies on female protagonism in the informal job market.
